An interesting first round to begin the 2025 NFL Draft has brought some draft picks to teams that are in need of some help in depth.

There were eight offensive lineman drafted in the first 32 selections on Thursday night and at the very top of the list was LSU left tackle Will Campbell.

Campbell was selected No. 6 overall by the New England Patriots in an effort to upgrade their offensive line and find some much-needed protection for quarterback Drake Maye.

Last season, the Patriots ranked 31st in the league in pass-block win rate and allowed pressure on a league-worst, 39% of dropbacks, according to ESPN.

Although there were concerns about Campbell's arm length, his technique, quickness and strength stood out in college and at the NFL Combine – making him an easy choice as the first offensive lineman taken off the board by the Patriots.

In interviews after he was drafted, Campbell was asked about his ability to protect second-year quarterback, Drake Maye, and he answered with a convincing response.

"I'm going to fight and die to protect him," he told Bleacher Report on Thursday.

At 6-foot-6, 319-pounds, Campbell started in 38 straight games over his three seasons and started as a true freshman at LSU in 2022.

He also protected the blindside of former No.2 overall pick and 2024 Offensive Rookie of the Year, Jayden Daniels, in his time at Baton Rouge.

Campbell will join a Patriots team that finished last in the AFC East with a record of 4-13.
