Patriots willing to part with significant draft capital in potential trade

The New England Patriots say publicly they are willing to do what they need to in order to boost the team in quarterback Drake Maye's second season in the league.

On Monday, Patriots executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf told reporters that the team is open to trading a first or second-round pick for help.

“Sure - just doing what’s best for the team," Wolf said via Tom Carroll of WEEI 93.7. "If there’s a player out there that we feel like can help us and it costs that, then we would consider doing that.”

A few big names are being floated as potential trade targets in the preseason. The Cincinnati Bengals are entertaining phone calls for disgruntled pass rusher Trey Hendrickson.

While Hendrickson would fit a team looking for an edge to a postseason run, the Patriots need to think about adding offensive help instead of bolstering an already good defense.

The Washington Commanders have two players that New England could try to trade for this summer. Wide receiver Terry McLaurin would be a big help for Maye, as the Patriots need another wide receiver to go alongside Stefon Diggs.

New England could also inquire about running back Brian Robinson Jr., who the Commanders are actively trying to shop. Rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson has been electric in the preseason, but the team could use depth at the position.

Rhamondre Stevenson didn't have a good season in 2024, averaging just 3.9 yards per rush. Robinson would be a threat to catch passes out of the backfield, something that would be a benefit for Maye in the upcoming season.
