Patriots Work Out Greg Van Roten

The journeyman lineman is coming off a two-year stint with the Giants, where he started all 34 of his appearances. For his efforts in 2025, Pro Football Focus ranked him 33rd among 79 qualifying offensive guards, with the site being particularly bullish on his pass-blocking abilities.

Van Roten has generally been a starter throughout his career, and while his performance has been middle-of-the-road, he has been remarkably healthy. Since the 2021 campaign, the veteran OL has only missed a single regular season game.

The majority of the 36-year-old’s experience has come at guard, which would make sense from a need perspective for the Patriots. Free agent addition Alijah Vera-Tucker has a long injury history, and assuming he misses time, the Patriots will be eyeing the likes of Ben Brown (who is also the team’s primary center backup) as a fill-in. The rest of the team’s depth at the position includes Andrew Rupcich, Mehki Butler, JonDarius Morgan, and Caedan Wallace.
