New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs is now facing a felony charge of strangulation as well as a misdemeanor charge of assault, according to newly released court documents.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred on Dec. 2 and specific details of the incident have not yet been made public.

Diggs’ attorney Michael DiStefano made a remote appearance in court on Tuesday. He disclosed to the court that Diggs is working with the alleged victim on a financial agreement to settle the case.

The Patriots also released a statement on Tuesday, noting that Diggs denies the allegations.

“The New England Patriots are aware of the accusations that have been made regarding Stefon Diggs. Stefon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the allegations. We support Stefon. We will continue to gather information and will cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities and the NFL as necessary.”

While DiStefano has asked the court for an extension, Diggs’ arraignment is currently set for Friday, Jan. 23.

The 32-year-old has 82 receptions this season for 970 yards and four touchdowns. The Patriots currently hold a 13-3 record heading into their final game of the season.
