Patterson Calls out Steelers on Monday

Cordarrelle Patterson has been in the NFL since he was drafted 29th overall in the 2013 NFL Draft. He began his career with the Minnesota Vikings and has made several stops across the league, playing both wide receiver and running back.

In 2024, Patterson signed with the Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers, the sixth team of his career. The 34-year-old spent most of the season as a kick returner but has career totals of 2,875 receiving yards and 2,646 rushing yards.

On Monday, Patterson announced he had been released by the Steelers, posting the news himself on his personal X account.

He didn’t hide his frustration, noting that the release came on his veteran day off. Patterson saw limited action last season, finishing with 12 receptions for 80 yards and a touchdown. He also had 32 carries for 135 rushing yards.

Pittsburgh made the playoffs as the No. 6 seed in the AFC but lost to division rival Baltimore 28-14. Patterson didn’t play a snap in that game.

Looking ahead to 2025, the Steelers will feature DK Metcalf, Calvin Austin III and Robert Woods as their top three receivers. Jaylen Warren is now the team’s lead running back, with former Iowa standout Kaleb Johnson serving as his backup.

The biggest offseason headline in Pittsburgh has been the addition of 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers at quarterback. He has been taking first-team reps ahead of Mason Rudolph and Will Howard.

The Steelers will open the 2025 season on the road against the New York Jets on September 7.
