The Browns selected defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey with the 108th pick in the draft hoping that he could create an interior presence.

If Winfrey can work hard enough, he should be getting plenty of time on the field with how much help the Browns need at defensive tackle.

Even Chad Reuter of NFL Network believes that Winfrey can have a great rookie season.

“Even if Winfrey doesn’t win a starting job coming out of training camp, I expect the Browns to get him into the game in sub-packages regularly early in the season to attack the backfield. His playing time should increase as he progresses through his rookie campaign, in which he’ll accumulate somewhere in the range of six to eight tackles for loss and three to five sacks for the year.”

How Could Winfrey Have a Great Season?

Winfrey could have success in the pass-rush with how the Browns’ defensive line is set up.

The Browns have two amazing edge rushers coming off the sides in Myles Garrett and Jadeveon Clowney, so offensive lines will really focus on them. With edge rushers getting more attention, Perrion Winfrey should have an easier time getting past offensive lines.

Winfrey should get plenty of opportunities to rush freely past offensive lines with them focusing on the edges.

What Might Hold Him Back?

Winfrey just being a rookie might hold him back. One of the bigger struggles rookie defensive tackles have is playing against experienced offensive linemen.

The physicality of NFL football could give him problems. Winfrey definitely didn’t have problems from a physicality standpoint in college, though.

The difference between college and NFL football can be something that gives him problems. It happens to many rookies so it could happen to him.

Winfrey Can Help the Browns

The Browns could definitely use some good performances from Winfrey this season. The Browns’ defense has the potential to be really good, but the lack of talent needs to be addressed.
