The Las Vegas Raiders have now fallen to 2-5.
They couldn't get anything going against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7, with Andy Reid's team having as many first downs (30) as Raiders offensive plays. It was an overall dominant and well-rounded performance by the home team, shutting out its divisional rival in a game that would've been even more lopsided if the Chiefs didn't pull Patrick Mahomes and the starters in the fourth quarter.
However, perhaps the biggest issue wasn't even on the field. Following the loss, Raiders head coach Pete Carroll pretty much admitted that they weren't ready for this game.
"This was a game that I didn’t see coming. We had prepared really well," Carroll said, per Pro Football Talk. "They’re a terrific team, they did everything that they do, they played really well in all phases and kept us totally at bay. We couldn’t make a first down and couldn’t get off the field. We have a lot of work to do and we have a lot of catching up to do."
It's one thing to get beaten, but you can never get outworked. This reflects a bigger issue for this team, one that shouldn't have been in the cards with a veteran HC like Carroll.
He was supposed to turn the organization's culture around and build a winning team from within. Instead, it has suffered from the same issues that have set this franchise back for years. Quarterback issues aside, no personnel can make up for a lack of preparation, and that should be a major concern for this team going forward.
