Peter King urges Packers to offer high draft pick for Chase Claypool

The struggles of the Green Bay Packers passing offense this season have been well-documented.

With just one 100-yard receiver and no wideout averaging more than 56 yards per game, NBC Sports’ Peter King believes he sees a solution to help jump start a stagnant Packers passing attack.

“No idea if they’ll do something at receiver to try to get off the 3-5 schneid, particularly with Christian Watson not being able to stay on the field,” King recently wrote . “But if I’m GM Brian Gutekunst, I’m offering a second in 2023 and a fifth in 2024 for Chase Claypool, right now.”

Claypool, who’s been at the forefront of trade speculation for the better part of a month, has been targeted 50 times, which would lead the Packers, and he’s totaled 32 receptions for 311 yards, which would both rank second among Packers pass catchers.

He’s had just one drop through eight games, an issue Green Bay has struggled with mightily this season as the Packers rank fifth in the NFL with 14 drops.

The 6-foot-4, 238-pound Claypool leads the Steelers with 238 snaps from the slot. Green Bay has just two players with 80 or more slot snaps this season in tight end Robert Tonyan and receiver Randall Cobb, who’s currently on injured reserve.
