Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton is an offensive mad man/mastermind. It is a mixture of both, and he had a legendary quarterback alongside him for today's OTAs practice, according to recent reports.
According to Zac Stevens, legendary quarterback Peyton Manning was in attendance for Broncos practices on Thursday. It was a day where Evan Engram impressed, and rookie running back R.J. Harvey proved himself as a third-down contributor.
Broncos OTAs today:
— Zac Stevens (@ZacStevensDNVR) June 5, 2025
— Evan Engram is going to be a MASSIVE staple in the passing game
— There should’ve be any concerns about RJ Harvey’s hands. He’s caught everything
— Talanoa Hufanga is a workhorse. He’s constantly grinding on the practice field
— Devaughn Vele continues to…
I talked about how different the Broncos offense could look this season, in comparison to Nix's rookie year with A to Z Sports contributor Justin Churchill. Bringing in a player and person like Manning could really help the young quarterback's development process for the short and long-term.
The Denver Broncos had some offensive woes last year, mainly surrounded by the poor run game. Sure, they were handicapped at times with a rookie quarterback, too, not that he was bad, because he was great, but just that there is only so much a rookie QB can do. In 2025 we should see an even better version of the offense, and that's thanks to Sean Payton and some of the moves he has helped the front office facilitate.
They brought on Evan Engram to help Payton fill that need for a "joker," as he likes to say, and drafted some really good players, too. One of the rookies we should see a ton is running back R.J. Harvey, who, alone could be enough to change how this offense looks. Pat Bryant, the rookie receiver, and another year of Bo Nix in a system orchestrated by an offensive mastermind in Sean Payton is a recipe to see an improved offense in 2025 -- a year where they have to make yet another leap. -- Justin Churchill
I've been on the record that Engram was one of my favorite under-the-radar offensive additions in the AFC. I think he fits a lot of what Payton will like to do in his passing offense, and he has experience with mobile quarterbacks in his past, similar to Nix.
As for Harvey, there have been some murmurs that he won't be able to hold down a third-down role for Denver. That doesn't seem like the case at all. His elusiveness and big play ability could show up in year one for the Broncos game, both on the ground and through the air.
Manning's attendance is another cool piece to the offseason that we see around the NFL. Archie Manning was in attendance for New Orleans Saints practice last week.
I'll be interested to see how different Nix and his offense look in 2025, compared to last season. Will Payton trust his young QB even more? Can they get more out of their rushing attack behind Harvey? Will WR depth step up alongside Courtland Sutton?
All are fair questions that remain to get answers during the upcoming season for Denver.
