PFF Drops Harsh Truth About Cam Ward's Situation With Titans

The Tennessee Titans were looking for a quarterback upgrade this offseason, and they found one in the 2025 NFL Draft with Cam Ward. The former Miami signal-caller is expected to be the Week 1 starter in Tennessee over the incumbent Will Levis.

For the Hurricanes, Ward had a stellar senior season. He threw for 4,313 yards and a nation-leading 39 touchdowns en route to being a finalist for the Heisman Trophy. He and his team won 10 games and earned a spot in the Pop-Tarts Bowl against Iowa State.

Ward was highly coveted by Titans head coach Brian Callahan and general manager Mike Borgonzi throughout the pre-draft process.

Unfortunately, not every outlet believes that this is a great pairing. Pro Football Focus' Dalton Wasserman asserted that Ward was not walking into an ideal situation as a rookie, and that several other young signal-callers had it better.

"Cam Ward’s immediate path to a starting role in Tennessee justifies his spot near the top of the list," Wasserman wrote. "While the Titans’ receiving corps is thin, the team has invested heavily in the offensive line and boasts a capable backfield with Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears. Calvin Ridley, who topped 1,000 yards with a 74.7 receiving grade in 2024, gives Ward at least one proven target to lean on as he adjusts to the pro level."

While the team only has one pass-catcher on the roster who topped 1,000 receiving yards in 2024, the Titans are expecting veterans like Tyler Lockett and Van Jefferson --who combined for 876 yards last season -- to be a sure set of hands for the rookie quarterback.

Pollard and Spears are also a strong running back duo for Ward to lean on early in his career. The two combined for nearly 1,400 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground last year despite missing several games due to injury.

Ward ranked behind the New York Giants' Jaxson Dart and New Orleans Saints' Tyler Shough on this list by Wasserman. The Titans will open up their season on September 7 against the Denver Broncos, which will be an immediate test for the young player.
