PFF Ranks Offensive Tackles: Where Did Andrew Thomas Land?
John Jones-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Giants had one of the worst offensive lines in the National Football League last season, a unit that allowed the second-most sacks (85) in NFL history. However, left tackle Andrew Thomas, as has been the case every year since his second NFL season, was the lone bright spot despite missing a chunk of games with a hamstring injury that affected his play.

Before the 2023 season, Thomas signed a five-year extension worth $117.5 million ($67 million guaranteed) and has proven to be one of the best tackles in the NFL. In 2022, he was named a second-team All-Pro, barely missing out on a Pro Bowl berth.

This past season, while playing on a line that had multiple combinations due to injuries, Thomas, at 70 percent, was better than most guys at 100 percent. Among his fellow offensive line teammates who played at least 100 snaps, Thomas had the best pass-blocking efficiency rating (97.1), allowing just 17 pressures in 376 pass-block snaps spread over ten games.

Having solidified himself as a leader on the Giants' offensive line and the team, Thomas earned the 18th best ranking on Pro Football Focus' Austin Scott's list of offensive tackles.

Because of his injury and, to a degree, the constant changing of the lineup around him, Thomas struggled in the run-blocking department, finishing with the second-best mark among his teammates with at least 100 run-blocking snaps (behind guard Mark Glowinski). But he's still been one of the best pass-blocking tackles in the league.

If Thomas can earn such high marks in an injury-shortened season playing on an offensive line that had new faces almost every week, the sky's the limit for what he might be able to do when healthy and with the same supporting cast around him.
