PFF's Eagles strategy in 2026 NFL Draft is bad news for Dallas Goedert

The offseason drama of what the Philadelphia Eagles and tight end Dallas Goedert had at least ended with him staying for one more year. It's far from a guarantee that he'll be back in 2026, though.

Goedert signed a restructured contract that will pay him $10 for the 2025 season and the Eagles save about $4 million. It was a win-win for both sides as Goedert stays in the place he wants to be and the franchise saves money.

What does it all mean for the 2026 offseason? Will the Eagles try to retain him? Pro Football Focus might have a different option for Philadelphia at tight end.

PFF names tight end as an area of need to think about in 2026 NFL Draft

PFF's Trevor Sikkema wrote about what each NFL team needs to think about with one position going into the 2026 NFL Draft. Sikkema recommends the Eagles consider what to do at tight end, as the position could see some changes during the offseason.

"The Eagles have the best roster in the NFL once again, even after losing Milton Williams, Darius Slayand Josh Sweat this offseason. When looking forward, tight end Dallas Goedert is an unrestricted free agent next offseason, as is TE2 Grant Calcaterra. The 2026 tight end class isn't overly strong, but Philadelphia might need one or two regardless."

Goedert has been an integral part of the offense since being selected in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Eagles. He rose up from Zach Ertz's backup to the top guy on the depth chart. His best season came in 2021 when he had 56 receptions for 830 yards and four touchdowns.

Since that time, Goedert's production on the field has gone down. He has missed 15 games due to injuries in the last three years. His durability was a topic of discussion during the offseason, especially with Calcaterra stepping up in his place last year and playing well. Ultimately, the team is giving him one last chance to prove himself.

Philadelphia has not been afraid of drafting tight ends in the past and has had success with it. Finding a young pass catcher in the draft wouldn't hurt the Eagles, depending on the talent.

It's doubtful Eagles general manager Howie Roseman will go out of his way to trade up for one, but if one lands at his pick that had dropped in the draft, he could make the move.
