Philadelphia Eagles Add Player to Roster Less Than 24 Hours After Victory Over Cowboys

The Philadelphia Eagles kicked off their 2025 season on Thursday night with a thrilling—but messy—24-20 win over the Dallas Cowboys, improving to 1-0.

The game began with controversy as Eagles star pass rusher Jalen Carter was ejected before the first play for spitting on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.

Philadelphia also struggled with discipline, committing nine penalties for 110 yards, and the receiving corps had minimal production, with AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith combining for just four receptions totaling 24 yards.

While there’s likely little concern about the duo moving forward, the Eagles made a notable roster move less than 24 hours after the game.

Philadelphia announced that they signed wide receiver Javon Baker to the practice squad. Baker, a fourth-round pick by the New England Patriots last year, had recently been released.

To make room, the Eagles released outside linebacker Antwaun Powell-Ryland. Javon Baker could bring upside if given an opportunity—something he didn’t get much of in New England.

Currently, the Eagles’ wide receiver room is headlined by AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Jahan Dotson, who led the team against the Cowboys with three receptions for 59 yards. The group is rounded out by John Metchie III and Darius Cooper on the current 53-man roster.

In Baker's senior season at UCF in 2023, he recorded 52 receptions for 1,139 yards and seven touchdowns, averaging 87.6 yards per game.

As a rookie with the Patriots, however, Baker appeared in 11 games but caught just one pass on four targets and drew only one start. At 23 years old, there’s still plenty of development ahead for him if he hopes to make a lasting impact in Philadelphia.
