Roster Takeaways

Undrafted free agent Darius Cooper making the team is a great story. Cooper led all of FCS football last year in receiving yards with 1,450. He didn’t receive an opportunity to work out at the NFL Combine or the Senior Bowl. He made the most of the opportunity he got with the Eagles.

The Eagles do not currently have a long snapper on the roster. Charley Hughlett was the long snapper on the roster, but the Eagles released him. He will likely be brought back on the practice squad and elevated to the active roster to start the season. This gives the Eagles a little extra time to use a roster spot on a position player until they have to make a decision on the long snapper. Until then, they do not currently carry one.

Nakobe Dean is not on the active roster, as the Eagles have placed him on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. This means he will miss at least the first four games of the season, making him eligible to return Week 5 against the Denver Broncos. It will be interesting to see how the linebacker position unfolds when Dean is back, specifically between Dean and Campbell.

The Eagles’ use of a roster spot on a fullback is an indication they intend to be run-heavy again this year. Expect to see the Eagles continue to use the I-formation and feed Barkley, especially with a late lead.

Although they went through a flurry of roster moves, expect to see more out of the Eagles. Shortly after Tuesday’s 4 P.M. ET deadline, Nick Sirianni and Howie Roseman held a press conference. Roseman said in the press conference, “I would say we’re not done. We’re not done. We’ll see what happens in the next 24 hours.”

Expect the Eagles to be aggressive between now and the start of the season. Whether that be through trade, free agency, or the waiver wire, Eagles fans can trust that Roseman will stay aggressive in trying to upgrade the Eagles’ roster.
