The Philadelphia Eagles and GM Howie Roseman were not very active on Monday, but their names were still brought up in multiple expected moves. Despite no new additions, they lost a few key players to free agency. Here’s a recap of everything involving the Eagles on day one of NFL free agency.
Jaelan Phillips was viewed as a priority for the Eagles entering free agency. Losing him hurts, but the money the Carolina Panthers offered was almost unbeatable. He received a 4yr/$120mil contract from the Panthers.
Jahan Dotson was expected to depart Philadelphia in free agency, and on day one, he did just that. He signed with the Atlanta Falcons on a two-year deal worth $15 million. The Eagles will need a new WR3 entering the 2026 season.
Reed Blankenship was a key piece of the Eagles’ defense for the past few seasons. The lone reliable safety they had has now left in free agency. He signed a three-year deal worth over $24 million with the Houston Texans. The free agency class at safety still has a few names remaining, and Philadelphia could also opt to address this loss in the early stages of the NFL draft.
Nakobe Dean signed a 3yr/$36mil contract with the Las Vegas Raiders. It was difficult seeing Dean return to Philadelphia with the lack of playing time available. Second-year linebacker Jihaad Campbell is expected to see an increased role in Dean’s absence.
Michael Carter II was an expected cut candidate as his original contract would save the Eagles about $9 million in cap space. Instead, Roseman decided to restructure his contract and keep him around as solid cornerback depth. The restructured deal is rumored to save Philadelphia $6.8 million in salary cap space.
The Eagles had a very disappointing day one of NFL free agency . The goal all offseason was to re-sign their own guys rather than looking for outsiders. Instead, they lost multiple key pieces on just day one. They still have a few remaining free agents, most notably TE Dallas Goedert.
