Philadelphia Eagles: Jalen Hurts Leaves with Throwing Hand Injury in Week 18
Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

Things are going from bad to worse for the Philadelphia Eagles as only four minutes of the game clock after wide receiver AJ Brown left the game with a knee injury, quarterback Jalen Hurts has head to the medical tent for a right middle finger injury. While attempting a pass early in the second quarter, Jalen Hurts had his finger bent backwards by a Giants defender and it looks like something is wrong there.

Jalen Hurts has been struggling a bit this season when looking at his numbers as he has gone 345-of-522 (66.1 completion percentage) for 3,803 yards with 23 passing touchdowns to 14 interceptions while running 155 times for 601 yards (39 yards per carry with 15 additional rushing touchdowns. If Hurts is taken out of the game, whether it be because of the injury or just because coach Nick Sirianni wants to rest players as the NFC East divisional title hopes diminish, Marcus Mariota would be under center.

What would this Jalen Hurts injury mean for the Philadelphia Eagles?

With the injuries to significant players continuing to pile up for the Philadelphia Eagles, Sirianni may just decide to keep some of his starters out of the game to finish Week 18. Losing this game would mean they would face off in the NFC Wild Card Round on the road against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the fifth seed and that is not a terrible matchup for the Eagles.

However, if Jalen Hurts is going to be compromised going forward, things are in dire straits for the Eagles going into the NFL Playoffs. The Eagles have one of the worst statistical defensive teams in the league so having the starting quarterback not at 100 percent would be a huge blow. By no means should this injury keep Hurts from playing in the NFC Wild Card Round but instead, it could just be a pain tolerance issue.

With more to play for than a Week 18 win, where they are trailing 10-0 in the second quarter against the New York Giants, this makes sense for the team to just prepare for the Wild Card Round and essentially punt on the remainder of this game. Staying as healthy as possible is more important than a win today for the Eagles.
