The Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs will have their Super Bowl LIX rematch during Week 2 of the NFL season, per Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer. It’s set for a Sunday kickoff at 4:25 p.m. ET on FOX, per Jordan Schultz.
The Eagles will open the season on the Thursday kickoff of Week 1 against NFC East rival, the Dallas Cowboys. Safe to say, Philadelphia has quite the opening slate.
The Eagles and Chiefs have had quite the back and forth since Jalen Hurts took over as starting QB in Philly. The Hurts vs. Patrick Mahomes showdowns have been must-see TV.
Going back to 2021, the Chiefs are 3-2 against the Eagles and 1-1 in Super Bowls. Mahomes got the best of Hurts in October of 2021 in a 42-30 win in Philadelphia.
The two squared off again in Super Bowl LVII where the Chiefs won their second Super Bowl with Mahomes under center. Despite his MVP-level efforts, Hurts and the Eagles came up short 38-35 after having a 24-14 lead at halftime.
The teams rematched the next season in Kansas City where the Eagles beat the Chiefs 21-17 on Monday Night Football. However, Mahomes and crew would repeat as champions while Hurts and Philadelphia bowed out in the NFC Wild Card round.
Matchup No. 5 occurred in Super Bowl LIX this past season. With Kansas City looking for a three-peat, the Eagles got their Big Game payback with a 40-22 dominating victory. At one point, the Eagles led 40-6 and pulled Hurts and the starters to celebrate.
Both teams are poised to be in contention 2025 with each respective QB leading the franchise. The Chiefs proved a repeat can be done in this era of football, doing it for the first time in nearly 20 years after the New England Patriots. But a three-peat? Still has yet to happen.
Now, Hurts and the Eagles will look to win back-to-back titles and their third title overall in the last nine seasons. As it stands now, FanDuel listed the Eagles as the +650 favorite to win Super Bowl LX with the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens at +750. The Chiefs are +800, coming in at the fourth best odds.
