The Philadelphia Eagles took a significant step toward reinforcing their roster on Wednesday by opening the 21-day practice windows for four players currently on injured reserve.
Defensive back Jakorian Bennett, tight ends Grant Calcaterra and Eli Stowers, and left guard Landon Dickerson are now eligible to return to the practice field while the team evaluates their readiness.
The move starts the clock on a decision that must be made within three weeks: activate any or all of them to the active roster or leave them on injured reserve for the remainder of the season.
Philadelphia also announced the signing of defensive back Dean Clark to the practice squad as part of the same set of transactions.
Dickerson’s potential return stands as the most consequential development for a unit that has undergone notable upheaval.
The three-time Pro Bowl selection, a second-round pick out of Alabama in 2021, started the season opener against the Washington Commanders but struggled with a bone bruise in his right knee that he said had lingered from training camp.
He was placed on injured reserve the following day after acknowledging that the injury limited his effectiveness in the narrow 24-22 victory.
In his absence, the Eagles have adjusted along the interior line, with undrafted free agent Willie Lampkin recently receiving his first career start at left guard.
Head coach Nick Sirianni has praised Dickerson’s work ethic and determination to return, though he has stopped short of guaranteeing an immediate return to the starting lineup once the guard is cleared.
The other three players offer additional depth options as the Eagles navigate the middle portion of the schedule. Stowers, a rookie second-round pick, landed on injured reserve with quadriceps and hamstring issues before making his NFL debut.
Calcaterra, who re-signed on a one-year deal, and Bennett, acquired via trade ahead of the 2025 season, both went on injured reserve late in the preseason with back and knee injuries, respectively.
Their availability would give the coaching staff more flexibility at tight end and in the secondary.
With the practice windows now open, the Eagles can gauge the players’ progress in real time without immediately committing a roster spot.
The organization has already used several of its designated injured-reserve returns this season, so any activations will require corresponding moves to stay under the 53-man limit.
For a team looking to stabilize its offensive line and fortify depth at skill positions, the next three weeks of practice will determine how much immediate help is on the way.
