When the Philadelphia Eagles signed star running back Saquon Barkley in NFL free agency this offseason, many viewed the move as the piece that the offense has been missing. Over the last couple of years, the Eagles have been missing a consistent and scary running game, which is exactly what Barkley brings to the table.
Granted, there are some injury concerns about Barkley. He has struggled to stay on the field consistently. However, if he can stay on the field, the Eagles are going to be very difficult for opposing defenses to stop.
Looking ahead to the upcoming season, Barkley also will have a lot of pressure taken off of his shoulders and legs. With the New York Giants, the passing game was not great in recent years. The Eagles, on the other hand, have a great passing game and Barkley will not be asked to shoulder such a big load.
To say that Barkley is excited to play with the Philadelphia Eagles’ offense would be an understatement.
In a recent quote shared by Eliot Shorr-Parks on Twitter, Barkley was very to the point when talking about the Eagles’ new-look offense.
“You get a huddle Day 1, and it’s A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Dallas Goedert, Jalen Hurts…Not a bad group.”

What exactly are the Philadelphia Eagles getting in their new running back? They’re getting a dynamic dual-threat running back who can break off a big run or catch anytime he touches the ball. It’s the part of their offense that has been missing.
During the 2023 season with the Giants, Barkley ended up playing in 14 games. He carried the football 247 times for 962 yards and six touchdowns. In addition to his rushing totals, Barkley caught 41 passes for 280 yards and another four touchdowns.
Those numbers give a nice tease to what the Eagles can expect from their new running back.
Looking around the NFC, the Philadelphia Eagles certainly look the part of a legitimate Super Bowl contender. If they can stay healthy, the sky is the limit for this group.
Expect to see Barkley come in and prove the Eagles right for signing him right off the bat. He’s got a chip on his shoulder after the years of disappointment in New York. With Philadelphia, he’ll get back to being the unstoppable superstar that he was earlier in his career with the Giants.
