The Philadelphia Eagles have been one of the quieter teams throughout the first few days of NFL free agency. However, they have added a few free agents thus far to bolster their roster. On Thursday night, the team made a signing to help improve their defense. Let’s take a closer look at who they signed and what this means for the team going forward.
The Philadelphia Eagles have bolstered the defensive side of the ball on Thursday night. ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that they have agreed to a one-year, $7.3 million max deal with free agent linebacker Arnold Ebiketie. Ebiketie is guaranteed $4.3 million in this deal as well. He comes to the team after spending the previous four years with the Atlanta Falcons. This deal brings Ebiketie to a familiar place as he played college football at Temple and Penn State.
Ebiketie was selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, so he definitely possesses some talent. With Ogbo Okoronkwo and Brandon Graham still free agents, there was an opening for a backup outside linebacker. Ebiketie is bringing the ability to rush the passer to the Philadelphia Eagles as well. In his four seasons in the NFL, he only missed one game. He has recorded 129 total tackles (80 solo, 49 assisted) with 16.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, six pass deflections, and 14.5 stuffs.
The Eagles are going to be in a position where they are just adding pieces on the edges of the roster. The Eagles seem like they are essentially content with their roster, so expect more additions like this rather than home runs.
