The Philadelphia Eagles have been one of the more intriguing teams throughout the offseason, as the front office is looking to make shrewd decisions for the 53-man roster. The team has added a free agent to help their running back depth for the 2026 season. Let’s take a closer look at who they have signed and what it means for the team this upcoming season.

The Philadelphia Eagles announced they have agreed to a one-year deal with running back Dameon Pierce on Thursday. He played five games last season between the Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs, but has been effective throughout his career. Pierce has played four seasons, and in 43 games (20 starts), he has 419 rushing attempts for 1,684 yards (4.0 yards per carry) with eight rushing touchdowns as well as 45 receptions for 268 yards (6.0 yards per catch) with a receiving touchdown.

This Philadelphia Eagles team has been adding depth pieces as they now have an experienced running back room heading into the 2026 NFL Draft. After needing to replace AJ Dillon and already having Tank Bigsby and Will Shipley under contract, the battle to be the backup running back behind Saquon Barkley is going to be intriguing. Pierce suffered a quadriceps injury last season that caused him to miss training camp and fell out of the Texans running back rotation before being waived. The Chiefs would pick him up, and he would play one game.

With Pierce looking to revitalize his career, having the Philadelphia Eagles offensive line blocking for him should allow him to get some open holes to run through. It will be interesting to see if Pierce is able to step up and make the 53-man roster with the team.
