Philadelphia Eagles sign former 40-time record holder John Ross to one-year deal
Troy Wayrynen-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Eagles signed former Cincinnati Bengals 2017 first-round draft pick, wide receiver John Ross, to a one-year deal on Thursday.

The move comes a day after the Eagles officially placed wide receiver DeVante Parker on the reserve/retired list.

Ross had also worked out for the Eagles during rookie minicamp earlier this month.

Ross Held the Fastest 40-yard Time Until This Year

Up until this past year's NFL Combine, Ross held the record for the fastest 40-yard dash time at 4.22 seconds. Former Texas and current Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy broke it back by running a 4.21.

Another interesting fact about Ross is that he has not played an NFL snap since 2021.

Following an injury-plagued career, the Bengals declined to pick up Ross' fifth-year option. He became a free agent in 2021 a one-year deal with the New York Giants.

Ross did not find another NFL home in 2022 but was picked up by the Kansas City Chiefs in January of 2023. He never made it to the regular season after announcing in July that he was officially retiring.

In five seasons with the Bengals and Giants, Ross hauled in just 62 catches for 957 yards and 11 touchdowns through 37 career games.

The chances of Ross making the Eagles' 53-man roster are slim, though it's good to have the extra veteran depth in the offseason.

It helps Ross that the Eagles are in search of a slot receiver so if the vet has a solid offseason, then he possibly could find himself carving out an NFL comeback.

The Eagles also have Parris Campbell along with rookies Johnny Wilson and Ainias Smith competing for the No. 3 receiver job.
