Philadelphia Eagles Star Defender Questionable; Missing Key Practice Ahead of Sunday’s Battle Against the Washington Commanders – Week 8

The Philadelphia Eagles could be without a critical piece of their defense in Sunday’s divisional matchup against the Washington Commanders. Starting defensive lineman Jordan Davis, amid a breakout sophomore campaign, was off on the sidelines watching practice on Friday.

The Georgia product suffered a hamstring injury at Thursday’s practice and was stuck watching warm-ups the following day. Davis has been a beast in the trenches this season, accumulating 19 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 2.0 TFLs, and five QB hits in seven games. The Eagles selected Davis with the 13th overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft. He operated as a spot starter for the Eagles as a rookie, playing in 13 games, starting five, and tallying just 18 tackles with no sacks.

Stout Philadelphia Eagles D-Line Flush with Potential Substitutes if Davis Sits

Jordan Davis and Fletcher Cox have formed one of the better interior linemen duos in the NFL. The Eagles allow just 3.6 yards per rush attempt, the fifth-lowest mark in the league. However, if Davis is unavailable on Sunday, the Eagles will likely turn to fellow Georgia Bulldog product Jalen Carter. Another first-round pick, Carter has played exceptionally well as a rookie despite not starting any games, collecting 13 tackles, 5.0 TFLs, and 3.5 sacks in six games.

Milton Williams and Marlon Tuipulotu could also see action if Davis sits. Williams has spent his first three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles and has 6.5 sacks and 16 QB hits in 41 career games. Meanwhile, Tuipulotu, like Williams, has spent three years with the Eagles. The former sixth-round pick has a sack and five tackles this year.
