Philadelphia's Lane Johnson prepares for annual summit

Appearing on Good Morning Football recently, Eagles All-Pro right tackle Lane Johnson discussed his Senior Bowl Hall of Fame induction, running routes and his upcoming summit of offensive linemen.

It all started in 2017 when linebacker Von Miller organized a meeting where the NFL’s best pass-rushers could compare notes and discuss how to attack the league’s offensive linemen.

Given the nature of their position, the offensive linemen weren’t about to take this lying down and in 2018, Johnson countered Miller’s event and organized the OL Masterminds Summit.

The event started small with only 25 linemen showing up for the inaugural meeting. But with the help of Duke Manyweather, an offensive line scouting and development consultant, the event has grown larger every year, and next week more than 250 of the largest athletes in professional sports will gather in Frisco, Texas for the sixth annual meeting.

Guest speakers for this year’s event include Jeff Saturday and Andrew Whitworth as well as Hall of Fame linemen Bruce Matthews, Orlando Pace and Will Shields. Former referee and current broadcaster Mike Pereira will also be on hand to discuss rules.

Whatever they do in these meetings, it seems to be working for Johnson. In the last six years, Johnson has been elected to four Pro Bowls with two First-Team All-Pro nominations and a pair of Super Bowl appearances.

After 10 seasons in Philadelphia, he’s widely regarded as the best right tackle in football.  According to Pro Football Focus, Johnson hasn’t given up a quarterback hit since Week 7 of 2021 or a sack since Week 11 of 2020.

At the moment, the 33-year-old tackle is in the Napa Valley to celebrate the wedding of Eagles teammate Jordan Mailata. After that he’ll be off to Texas where 249 offensive linemen stand to learn quite a bit from the ten-year veteran.
