Philip Rivers may not be done in the NFL

Philip Rivers' shocking return from retirement was one of the main storylines in the league this season.

The former Los Angeles Chargers legend cemented his Hall of Fame case in three starts with the Indianapolis Colts, even if he didn't win any of those games.

Rivers confirmed that he's done playing and that he won't make another comeback or try to extend his career.

Nevertheless, that doesn't mean he's done in the NFL. According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, several teams might be interested in him as a potential head coaching candidate.

"Several sources say Rivers could end up as a head coach candidate this cycle, and the current belief is that Rivers gets at least one opportunity to interview, possibly more," Rapoport wrote. 

Rivers doesn't have head-coaching experience at the pro level, although he's been coaching his son's high school team. Whether he'll be interested in pursuing an opportunity remains to be seen, but this won't be the first time he's been a potential candidate.

"Sources say that teams have been doing research on Rivers as a candidate and making background calls," added Rapoport. "That happened last year, as well. Rivers previously has never been willing to engage -- not with college or NFL teams -- but his dramatic return to the NFL in December might have sparked his interest."

Rivers is a beloved and well-respected figure in football, and he just showed that he's as relevant as he's ever been.

This might not be the end of the line for the future Hall of Famer after all.
