The arrival of George Pickens as CeeDee Lamb's running mate for the Dallas Cowboys' offense is seen as a risky move, but one that is worth taking.
Now with two genuine weapons that can be moved around to dictate coverages, both Lamb and Pickens are expected to see favorable matchups
The move was seen as a good one for CeeDee and Dak Prescott, but we have another name who could be set to benefit from Pickens in Dallas - Jake Ferguson.
In fact, in a subtle way, he might be the biggest winner of all.
The tight end is in a contract year and coming off a down 2024 that saw him deal with injury and concussion, as he couldn't replicate his Pro Bowl efforts from 2023.
Now he might.
How you say? Let's dive into it.
With Pickens' best work done outside the numbers, and Lamb being able to play both in the slot and outside, what that could do for Ferguson is a tantalizing prospect.
Given how well Dak and Ferguson have connected on seam balls over the years, which has seen the Cowboys pick up big chunk plays, now with Pickens, safeties and cornerbacks will have to worry about both Lamb and Pickens, and not be able to push down and meet Ferguson on the short and intermediate routes.
That means the middle of the field, where Ferguson does his best work, might be open for him and Prescott to connect.
It adds another layer to what Brian Schottenheimer and Klayton Adams (offensive coordinator) can do now that Pickens is at The Star.
Yes, Lamb and Prescott are set to benefit from George being on the field, but so too is Ferguson, who, as the third pass-catching option, might be about to bounce back in a big way in 2025.
