Draft season is well underway and we are just about two months until the official 2024 NFL Draft that will take place in Detroit, Michigan.
The draft will run from April 25-27 and Cleveland Browns will have eight selections after the first round.
It’ll be the final year the Browns do not have a first-round pick due to the Deshaun Watson trade. Still, there is a great opportunity in front of the Browns to grab a difference-maker early on.
Earlier today, I released a mock draft and Legette was not my wide receiver selection. The only reason was that he was not there in the simulator that I used. I believe there is a good chance that Legette could be there in April for the Browns and if he is, they should make it happen.
It is a rich draft for wide receivers which should cause some to fall deeper than they would any other year. If that’s the case here, the Browns could grab a 6-foot-1 223-pound wideout that possesses blazing speed.
Legette is going to run in the 4.3 range at the 40-yard dash, perhaps even quicker. He is a guy who can beat teams deep with contested catches and has the acceleration after the catch that can cause big plays.
In 2023, Legette broke out for the Gamecocks with 1,355 yards. In the previous four seasons, he did not break 200 yards. The latest production is worrisome but everything is there on the senior tape to see that he is a bonafide ball-player.
Amari Cooper isn’t getting any younger and while the Browns may extend him, he’s only under contract through next season right now. The same can be said about Elijah Moore’s contract, which will come to an end following next season.
Lately, the Browns haven’t been able to hit on any heavy contributors at the wide receiver position in the draft. The bounty is still out on David Bell and Cedric Tillman, other than that Donovan Peoples-Jones was the best find in recent years and he was in the sixth round.
Containing to evolve the wideout room is what Cleveland needs to do no matter what. Adding a playmaker like Legette would be too good to pass up.
Good teams build the rough the draft and develop their players. The early part of the draft is the prime spot to find who you can best do that with. Legette in a Browns’ uniform would give them the opportunity to complete that task.
