Aaron Rodgers got shutdown by the New York Jets only after the first game of 2023 season but only because he suffered a severe injury that rendered him unable to play. He might suffer the same fate with his new team Pittsburgh Steelers and this time, it will have more to do with his effectivity as a QB.
Rodgers signed a one-year deal with the Steelers and instantly, questions about his capability arose. The latest to question his caliber is former Pittsburgh player and two-time Super Bowl champion James Harrison.
Silverback, who had two stints with the Steelers as a linebacker, suggested that things could get ugly for A-Rod as the season goes along.
If [the Steelers] start losing and it’s looking like they ain’t gonna make above .500, I think it gets real ugly, real fast,” Harrison said.
“To the point where they may just be like, ‘You know what, let’s let this dude go midseason. For Aaron, let’s just get him outta here and put one of these other quarterbacks in.’ Mike [Tomlin] ain’t going nowhere.”
Health is what’s being thrown at Rodgers despite him saying that he is in the best shape currently.
One thing they need to focus on though is the offensive tackle department which according to ESPN panelists if their major weakness heading into the 2025 season.
Writer Mike Clay wrote:
Tackle is a major question, but there’s hope about who will protect Aaron Rodgers. Broderick Jones (2023) and Troy Fautanu (2024) were recent first-round picks who could make a big leap forward this season. After struggling at right tackle the past two seasons, Jones is set to take over for Dan Moore Jr. at left tackle this season. Fautanu (who played 49 snaps as a rookie) will replace Jones on the right side.
This take echoes former Steelers Jerome Bettis’ sentiment in the last two weeks. He suggested that Rodgers can still be an effective signal caller but for him to be able to maximize his talent, he needs to be surrounded by capable OTs.
