Pittsburgh Steelers Add Two More Roster Cuts To Early Moves
Jim Dedmon-USA TODAY Sports

Monday was a whirlwind for the Pittsburgh Steelers, as they made multiple early moves to reshape their roster.

Among the notable transactions was the departure of quarterback Mitch Trubisky. Additionally, punter Pressley Harvin and offensive lineman Chukwuma Okorafor were also released from the team.

Okorafor’s release came after a period of being sidelined for a considerable portion of the 2023 season. While the exact reasons behind his benching remain unclear, it appears that the organization saw no path to reconciliation, thus opting to grant him a fresh start elsewhere.

As for Harvin, his struggles in punting at the NFL level were evident. While he occasionally showcased flashes of promise, his overall performance left much to be desired. With an average punt distance of just 43.8 yards per attempt this season, he ranked 32nd out of 33 punters league-wide.

With these departures, the Steelers now turn their attention to bolstering their roster.

The upcoming free agency period in March and the NFL Draft in April present opportunities for the team to address their needs. Priority areas include securing a new punter, reinforcing offensive line depth, and acquiring another quarterback to provide competition for Kenny Pickett.

In order to get back into contention in the AFC, the Pittsburgh Steelers will need to put together a strong offseason.
