Pittsburgh Steelers' biggest needs entering day two of the 2025 NFL Draft are suddenly murkier after first-round selection

With Shedeur Sanders on the board (and every QB not named Cam Ward) the Pittsburgh Steelers decided to go elsewhere in round one

That would be DL Derrick Harmon, who, while looking to be a promising pick, joins perhaps the strongest unit on the team.

So that leaves three obvious needs for the Steelers on day two. Only problem is, they have one total pick...

Steelers' biggest needs on day two of 2025 NFL Draft

QB

After passing on Shedeur Sanders and watching Cam Ward and Jaxson Dart go in round one, the team still only has two quarterbacks on the roster. Here's the thing, however, by the time the third round and pick 83 rolls around, the Steelers are going to have very slim pickings.

Sure, maybe Jalen Milroe makes it that far, but it is far more likely that the team has to pick between Quinn Ewers, Will Howard, and Tyler Shough compared to taking Jalen Milroe. Oh, and of course they have two other pressing needs...

RB

The team can talk all they want about how confident they are in Jaylen Warren. But take a look at the last four featured running backs for the Steelers. Rashard Mendenhall, Le'Veon Bell, James Conner, and Najee Harris all flirted with or were well over 6-0 and upwards of 215 pounds..

That's not Jaylen Warren. He's a change of pace, lightning and thunder kind of player.

The name to watch would be Iowa RB Kaleb Johnson. He has the size the Steelers usually covet, and while he won't blow you away with explosion, he has Steelers written all over him.

WR

With all the rumors swirling surrounding George Pickens, if the Steelers actually do trade him, it will be tomorrow. That's because Pittsburgh would assume just keep Pickens on the roster and let him walk in free agency for a fourth-round pick in 2026, rather than trade him for that now and lose one of the most talented WRs in the league, even if he is a headache at times.

So those are the three positions to watch for Pittsburgh come Friday night. Obviously a lot of needs and question marks still to be filled and answered, it's going to be interesting to see if Pittsburgh can find a way to fetch more capital.
