Pittsburgh Steelers Eyeing Saints Playmaker to Bolster Receiving Room

This offseason for the Pittsburgh Steelers has been an eventful one, to say the least.

The six-time Super Bowl Champions haven’t won a playoff game in nearly a decade and have been struggling on the offensive side of the ball since 2019.

General manager Omar Khan has been aggressive in 2025 when it comes to pursuing ways to score more points. He traded for star wide receiver DK Metcalf in March, drafted Kaleb Johnson in the third round of the NFL Draft, and has been targeting Aaron Rodgers.

The front office allowed their 2024 quarterbacks, Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, to walk, landing in New Jersey, Wilson to the Giants and Fields to the Jets.

As of now, both are expected to start week one, but where does that leave Pittsburgh?

Currently, Mason Rudolph is the starting quarterback on the depth chart. He was drafted back in 2018 during the third round by the Steelers and after just one season in Tennessee, he’s back in Pittsburgh.

Listed behind Rudolph is rookie Will Howard, who was drafted in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Although some are excited about the Ohio State product's future, it could take some time.

The team also traded away George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys on May 7, in a deal that shocked many. Pittsburgh gained a 2026 third-round pick, which will help later down the line, but if the team acquires Rodgers, they should be all in for this year.

Since parting ways with Pickens, the Steelers have been searching for ways to add to the room again and according to Adam Crowley, they are going after Chris Olave.

A receiving room of Metcalf, Robert Woods, Calvin Austin III, and Roman Wilson is good, however, in today's NFL, teams will likely need more proven talent. Inserting Olave into their offense would give them a slot receiving threat that they haven't really had since Diontae Johnson.

Adding Olave would immediately make their skill position group go from average to elite. Combine that with signing Rodgers and the Steelers could very well have one of the best rosters in the league next season.
