The Pittsburgh Steelers announced Friday they have signed veteran safety Chuck Clark. In a corresponding move, Pittsburgh waived defensive tackle Domenique Davis.

Clark, 30, arrived at Friday’s practice in Latrobe wearing No. 21. The addition of Clark provides some much-needed depth to Pittsburgh’s safety room after Minkah Fitzpatrick was traded to the Miami Dolphins last month.

Clark spent the 2024 season with the New York Jets. He appeared in 12 games, compiling 69 tackles (38 solo), two pass breakups, one forced fumble and one sack. Clark missed the entirety of the 2023 campaign while recovering from a torn ACL.

Prior to that, he spent the first six seasons of his career with the Baltimore Ravens, the Steelers’ AFC North rival. Clark, a 2017 sixth-round pick out of Virginia Tech, became a full-time starter in 2019, emerging as an underrated piece of Baltimore’s defense.

Clark played in 96 games (63 starts) for the Ravens. He tallied 384 tackles (240 solo), five interceptions, 32 pass breakups, five forced fumbles and 3.5 sacks. Baltimore traded Clark to New York in March 2023. Clark tore his ACL during June OTAs.

Steelers stay busy, add Chuck Clark

Clark will compete for a spot on the Steelers’ 53-man roster. DeShon Elliott and Juan Thornhill are currently slated to start at the two safety spots, with Miles Killebrew, Sebastian Castro and Quindell Johnson behind them. Clark brings positional versatility, with 1,750 snaps in the box, 1,871 snaps at free safety and 672 snaps in the slot throughout his career.

Pittsburgh continues to stay busy this offseason. Along with Clark, the Steelers have signed quarterback Aaron Rodgers and cornerback Darius Slay, and acquired receiver DK Metcalf, tight end Jonnu Smith and cornerback Jalen Ramsey.
