Steel City Underground presents “Plays of the Year” featuring the top runs, catches, hits, and everything else in between from the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 2024 season.

The 2-0 Pittsburgh Steelers would open their home schedule of the 2024 NFL regular season by hosting the 2-0 Los Angeles Chargers in a Week 3 matchup of evenly matched teams who focused on strong run games and stout defenses.

The Steelers defense would be on full display during this game, getting to Chargers quarterbacks a total of three times. Two of those sacks would come from LB Nick Herbig.

The second-year pro out of Wisconsin would fill in for LB Alex Highsmith, who would leave the game with a hamstring injury halfway through the matchup. The stage was now set for Herbig to rush the passer.

In the third quarter, Chargers QB Justin Herbert would be Herbig’s first victim on a 2nd-and-10 pass attempt.

Herbig would strip the ball from Herbert, but the Steelers were unsuccessful in their recovery attempt.

Unsatisfied with the lone sack, Herbig would strike again midway into the fourth quarter, acquiring his second sack of the day by bringing down backup Chargers quarterback Taylor Heinicke on a 1st-and-10 following a Calvin Austin 55-yard touchdown that saw the Steelers go up by ten.

Heinicke would be brought down one more time in the same series as LA went three-and-out and would punt. The Chargers would never receive the ball back as Pittsburgh chewed the remaining five minutes of clock to secure a 20-10 victory and improve to 2-0 on the season.
