The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have experienced several injury-related setbacks in their secondary this season, taking yet another over the weekend. Jordan Whitehead went down with an unexpected neck injury after being involved in a two-car accident.

Tampa Bay has since placed him on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury (NFI) list and he is projected to miss the postseason. Now, new details have emerged regarding the incident.

Greg Auman of FOX Sports has reported that Whitehead has been cited for careless driving Saturday's car accident in Tampa.

According to Tampa Police, Whitehead was driving a Corvette to the Buccaneers’ facility around 9:30 a.m. and “crashed into a GMC pickup truck.” Whitehead suffered injuries significant enough - with a situation seemingly scary enough - for Tampa Bay to place him on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury (NFI) list. Police estimated the damage to be $90,000 along with a $163 fine from the citation.

Whitehead will not have to appear in court. Bucs head coach Todd Bowles commented on the incident after Sunday's win over the New Orleans Saints, noting that Whitehead has been a "model citizen" in his time with the team.

“When you love somebody, they’re going to make a mistake. And you have to understand that, and you have to love them anyway. He would’ve played for us, and we’re going to play for him.”

The Bucs already have three defensive backs placed on injured reserve with Antoine Winfield Jr. and Mike Edwards listed as questionable heading into Sunday's NFC Wild Card game against the Washington Commanders.

Whitehead has played in 12 games this season, signing back with the Bucs after spending two seasons with the New York Jets.
