The Miami Dolphins' 28-15 Week 15 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday not only dropped them to 6-8 on the season, but also officially solidified that they won't be making the playoffs for the second straight season.
While the team isn't playing for much other than pride at this point, head coach Mike McDaniel is certainly doing everything in his power to stay off the hot seat. While he has taken much of the blame this season, so has Pro Bowl quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. The 27-year-old quarterback has thrown for 2,660 yards with 20 touchdowns and a career-high 15 interceptions.
A down year to say the least and a stretch of performances that may lead to the Dolphins turning to rookie quarterback Quinn Ewers.
When the media asked McDaniel on Tuesday if he would consider making a change at quarterback, the fourth-year head coach did not pull any punches.
"I think the quarterback play last night was not good enough," McDaniel said. "For me, everything is on the table."
When asked about whether or not he knows who would get the nod, McDaniel was unwilling to confirm.
"We're in the process of game-planning for the Cincinnati Bengals, so in that process we're trying to determine who gives us the best chance to win," McDaniel said.
While Zach Wilson has more appearances this season (3) than Ewers (1), it does feel safe to assume that the Dolphins would want to see what they have in the former Texas quarterback, whom they selected in the 7th round with the 231st overall pick.
Ewers' lone piece of action this year came in the team's Oct. 19 loss to the Browns, which saw Tagovailoa benched in the fourth quarter.
The Dolphins will host the Cincinnati Bengals (4-10) on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET.
