The offseason rages on for the New Orleans Saints and the rest of the NFL. OTAs are behind them, and there's plenty of on-field time remaining this offseason. This week, Kellen Moore's squad had a spectator that will interest plenty of Saints fans.
The Saints had a notable visitor at their practice earlier this week. As mandatory minicamp comes to a close, it was intriguing to see a college quarterback in attendance. He's got some ties to the Saints organization already, too.

There are layers to this one now that there is a new coaching staff for the Saints.
The LSU quarterback is the son of Doug Nussmeier, New Orleans' offensive coordinator. As I mentioned before, he is also the starter for the LSU Tigers. Nussmeier is widely expected to be a first-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft is he continues to progress. He showed flashes of top round talent last season and needs to build on that to find more consistency on a weekly basis.
Nussmeier had conversations with Moore, signed some autographs, and took in all of the sights that come from an NFL team's practice time. It was probably a useful span for the young quarterback, as well as the Saints.
2024 was Nussmeier's first season as LSU's full-time starter so far in his college career. This year is expected to be a sort of "breakout" campaign for him with a year of experience as the starter already under his belt.
Nussmeier has totaled 5,772 yards and 40 touchdowns so far with the Tigers and looks to build on those numbers this season.
For the Saints, they have their own QB battle happening right now between Spencer Rattler and rookie Tyler Shough.
If neither shows that they are the best answer in the long-term for Kellen Moore, could Nussmeier be in the cards for the Saints less than a year from now? That is certainly a possibility. Only time will tell.
