Potential landing spots for ex-Rams WR Cooper Kupp

After his release by the Los Angeles Rams, wide receiver Cooper Kupp should have plenty of options.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported "at least a dozen teams" have expressed interesting in adding the eight-year veteran.

After failing to find a trade partner for Kupp, the Los Angeles Rams released the 32-year-old receiver Wednesday. No team was willing to take on the cap hit it would require to add Kupp in a trade.

"He's going to have a multitude of options from teams who declined to trade for him and the contract he had with the Rams but are interested in signing Kupp to a contract of their own," Schefter said. "There will be any number of possibilities, but teams that bear watching here include the Seattle Seahawks, the Denver Broncos and the New England Patriots, amongst others."

Each of the three teams named by Schefter make sense as a landing spot for Kupp.

Seattle clearly needs another weapon on the outside after releasing Tyler Lockett and trading DK Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Seahawks signed receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling to a one-year deal worth up to $5.5M (h/t Spotrac). However, he is a depth acquisition and not enough to replace the production of either Metcalf of Lockett. Kupp would be a solid complementary piece to Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who had a breakout second season in 2024.

Denver is also an intriguing landing spot for Kupp. Quarterback Bo Nix is entering his second season in the league and desperately needs a wideout who can operate in the slot.

Courtland Sutton was the only receiver on Denver's roster who produced consistently last season. Kupp's experience and understanding of defenses would provide Nix with another safety blanket after the Broncos signed tight end Evan Engram to a two-year, $23M that includes $16M guaranteed (h/t Spotrac).

New England had the most cap space entering this offseason, and it has been one of the more aggressive teams in free agency. Signing Kupp would make sense for New England. However, would Kupp be interested in joining a team amid a rebuild and potentially several years away from competing for the postseason?

If the former Super Bowl MVP believes what New England is building with head coach Mike Vrabel and QB Drake Maye, he'd be an ideal fit from a purely football perspective.

Per Schefter, Los Angeles will designate Kupp a post-June 1 cut.
