Sunday has supplied one important answer for the Miami Dolphins. Unfortunately for their defense, it belongs to Detroit. Amon-Ra St. Brown is active despite the rib injury that left him questionable after a week of limited practices, according to the Lions’ official game-day report. Miami must prepare for the receiver, not for the possibility that he might be missing.
That is a meaningful distinction. St. Brown enters with 53 catches, 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns, the Lions report. His availability preserves an established option for Jared Goff. Miami cannot build its coverage plan around a Friday designation that Sunday has already resolved.
Detroit also has Sione Vaki available after he was listed as questionable with an ankle injury. Jacob Saylors will not play because of his neck injury. The Lions elevated Jabari Small from the practice squad Saturday, giving their running-back group another option with Saylors inactive. Availability does not establish how those touches will be divided.
Miami’s running-back picture requires more caution. DolphinsTalk reported, citing NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, that Jaylen Wright is expected to miss the game with his quadriceps injury. That is stronger than Friday’s questionable designation, but this draft does not have Miami’s complete verified inactive list. The report should be attributed rather than presented as an independently confirmed team announcement.
Kaytron Allen also entered the weekend questionable with a quadriceps injury. His full practice Friday was encouraging.
The Dolphins announced the elevation of Carlos Washington Jr. for Sunday, along with kicker Zane Gonzalez. Washington gives Miami an additional backfield option.
Detroit has confirmed absences elsewhere. Center Cade Mays, cornerback D.J. Reed and edge rusher DJ Wonnum are inactive, and Juice Scruggs will start at center for Mays. Those changes matter, but the Lions still have their top receiver available.
The Dolphins need to turn that information into a practical plan: account for St. Brown, prepare for Detroit’s replacement center and establish their own available backfield. An injury report can identify opportunities. It cannot make the blocks, complete the passes or finish the tackles. Sunday’s answers still have to happen on the field.
