Predicting the NFC East's biggest surprise cuts: Eagles part ways with 'absolute freak,' Cowboys cut former Pro Bowler, and more

With one more preseason week left to go, roster cuts are quickly approaching us. That's why our NFC East writers got together to discuss each team's biggest potential surprise cut.

From the Philadelphia Eagles parting ways with an athletic freak to the New York Giants saying goodbye to a former Day 2 draft pick on a rookie deal, let's dive in.

Philadelphia Eagles: WR Johnny Wilson

The Eagles have an extremely tough decision to make at wide receiver when it comes to cutting down to 53 players after training camp. There wouldn’t be much of a problem if it weren’t for undrafted rookie Darius Cooper stealing the spotlight in the first preseason game and following it up with impressive practices. If he keeps is up, then that leaves Ainias Smith or Johnny Wilson on the hot seat. I believe Smith has an edge with his special teams skills. It totally sucks because Wilson is an absolute freak but he hasn’t been as consistent with his hands and is constantly dropping balls at camp, per several reports. If Wilson ends up being the guy to go, hopefully he can pass through waivers and re-sign to the practice squad. - Kelsey Kramer.

Washington Commanders: LB Nick Bellore

The Commanders could cut Nick Bellore due to his liability as a LB. Bellore has been a major special teams player, and actually led the league in tackles on special teams with 17 last season, but only played eight snaps on the Commanders' defense last season. HC Dan Quinn even pointed out his limited play on defense when asked about the recent moves on the roster. Adam Peters moved on from recent 5th-round pick Dom Hampton after the first preseason game, and added veteran LB Duke Riley who can play defense as a rotational LB, and on special teams. The team values players who can do both, and Kain Medrano could step in as the next man up. Jordan Magee's injury history could really put a strain on how bad the commanders need depth at the position, and can't let a spot be taken up by a special teams player. - Josh Taylor.

Dallas Cowboys: RB Miles Sanders

When former Pro Bowl RB Miles Sanders was first signed by the Cowboys in free agency, I thought he could be a depth addition bound to wind up cut. But Sanders had a strong offseason and training camp. Combined with the team's lack of high-end talent at the position, that made Sanders start to look like a roster lock. However, the math game has become complicated following back-to-back strong performances by seventh-round rookie Phil Mafah. If the Cowboys waive Mafah, there's a large chance they lose him in waivers. Javonte Williams is set to start and there's no way they part ways with fifth-round rookie Jaydon Blue or fullback Hunter Luepke. This is a numbers game and I think Sanders stands to lose it at this point. - Mauricio Rodriguez.

New York Giants: OL Josh Ezeudu

Ezeudu has been with the team since he was drafted in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. In those three years, he's contributed in 33 games and started ten during a period of offensive line inconsistency for New York. With the free agent signing of James Hudson III and rookie Marcus Mbow shining, it makes little sense to keep Ezeudu. Ultimately, this cut wouldn't be shocking, but cutting a former Day 2 pick in his fourth year isn't a desired outcome. - Joe DeLeone.
