More NFL fans are watching football on Thursday evenings this season.
Prime Video streamed one of the most thrilling games of the 2025 season when the Seattle Seahawks won an overtime nail-biter over the Los Angeles Rams. The streamer announced Monday that the game drew 15.36 million average viewers, the seventh time this season a Thursday Night Football matchup reached 15 million.
Via Front Office Sports, the weekly showcase has averaged 14.96 million viewers this season, a 13 percent increase from the 2024 campaign. Prime Video celebrated a ratings record for Thursday Night Football, regardless of the hosting platform.
Thursday Night Football has remained a popular source of consternation over the years from those lamenting a diminished product worsened by a shorter turnaround. Yet everyone might be more accustomed to the weekly staple.
It also helps that Prime Video has hosted some captivating matchups this season.
Several TNF tilts have gone to the wire, including a 23-20 Seahawks win over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 4 behind a last-second field goal. The following week, the San Francisco 49ers earned an overtime win over the Rams.
The NFC West once again delivered Thursday-night theatrics last week. Seattle erased a 16-point deficit in the fourth quarter, with help from a controversial two-point conversion, before matching Los Angeles' overtime touchdown and winning on a bold two-point make.
The division rivals tallied 996 combined yards in a Game of the Year candidate that gave Seattle control of the NFC West and the conference's No. 1 seed.
It wasn't Prime Video's only exciting game this month, as Kirk Cousins led the Atlanta Falcons to a 29-28 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Dec. 11. While it wasn't as close, the Detroit Lions and Dallas Cowboys drew 19.4 million viewers in Week 14, a single-game TNF record for Prime.
Prime Video will host its final Thursday Night Football matchup of the season when the Kansas City Chiefs host the Denver Broncos on Christmas night. Although the Chiefs may still give them sizable ratings, the streamer could miss a chance to set another benchmark with Patrick Mahomes sidelined and the Chiefs out of playoff contention.
