Pro Bowler Quinnen Williams Fined Twice for Infractions against Cleveland

New York Jets' defensive tackle Quinnen Williams received the good news first.

On Thursday evening, the NFL named Williams to the Pro Bowl Games for the second year in a row. Two days later, the league office reportedly hit the Jets' all-star with two fines related to the Week 17 primetime loss to the Cleveland Browns. The 25-year-old Williams will be forced to absorb a $27,318 loss due to a pair of roughing infractions.

Reported by NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero, the league levied a $16,391 monetary penalty for roughing Browns' quarterback Joe Flacco on a second-quarter play that went for a touchdown.

While flushing Flacco out of the pocket late in the first half, Williams appeared to inadvertently swipe Flacco across the facemask causing the quarterback's head to turn. The veteran field general proceeded to escape Williams's pressure and find running back Jerome Ford for a 50-yard scoring strike. The officials did not call Williams for a penalty on the play.

Earlier in the second quarter, Williams was flagged for a personal foul face mask infraction that costed the Jets 15 yards on a three-yard first-down run by Kareem Hunt. The All-Pro defensive tackle incurred a $10,927 fine for his other second-quarter transgression.

Williams was credited with three stops, including 1.0 TFL, during the 37-20 defeat. The game-changing defender has fared well while operating in both pass and run situations. He has made 51 tackles on rushing plays and has hit the opposing passer a team-high 18 times this season.

After signing a mega four-year contract extension this past July, Williams joined Hall-of-Famer Joe Klecko and former first-rounder John Abraham as the only three defensive linemen in Jets' history to capture back-to-back Pro Bowl selections.

Williams, who has not missed a game all season, will lead the Jets (6-10) up against the New England Patriots (4-12) in the finale on January 7.
