Pro Football Focus rightfully ranks the Chicago Bears atop the NFL for how they've handled the offseason, and now the real work begins

Few teams had a better offseason in the NFL than the Chicago Bears, in fact it’s an easy argument to say the Bears made the most impactful moves out of any team since the 2024 season came to a close.

Starting with the hiring of head coach Ben Johnson and the rest of a loaded coaching staff, the Bears’ organization finally opened the checkbook to bring the right minds together to lead this team into the future.

As for the roster itself, the Bears main priority was attacking the trenches, followed by making some luxury additions to the offense for quarterback Caleb Williams.

The additions of Joe Thuney, Drew Dalman, and Jonah Jackson along with the selections of Ozzy Trapilo and Luke Newman completely overhauled the offensive line. On defense, Grady Jarrett and Shemar Turner bring a much needed mentality while cashing in on a breakout waiting to happen in Dayo Odeyingbo.

As for weapons, tight end Colston Loveland and wide receiver Luther Burden III gave Ben Johnson two exciting and versatile play-makers to add into the rest of the mix.

Overall, it’s hard to see a better outcome for this team, which is why Pro Football Focus gave the Bears an A+ for all their offseason moves, the only team in the NFL to receive such a grade.

“It was an ideal offseason for the Bears. They made huge splashes in their coaching staff, not just with Ben Johnson as head coach but also with Dennis Allen as defensive coordinator. They then traded for or signed Joe Thuney, Jonah Jackson and Drew Dalman to solidify their starting offensive line. That allowed them to take a “best player available” approach in the draft, which yielded Colston Loveland, Luther Burden III and Ozzy Trapilo, among others. Chicago didn’t really address running back this offseason, but if the team was to put a lower priority on any position, that was the one.” - PFF’s Trevor Sikkema

It’s hard to disagree with that assessment. Finding another top back to complement D’Andre Swift would have really put this offseason into another level, but you can’t have everything all at once. The Bears did still land a steal at running back in the draft with Kyle Monangai and with a coach like Eric Bieniemy leading the position, a top back might not be necessary in 2025.

At the end of the day, what general manager Ryan Poles did this offseason has been nothing short of spectacular. This Bears' squad is finally primed to make some real noise in the NFC North, but we’ve been here before.

High expectations only matter if you can live up to those expectations on the field. That’s where the Bears have fallen short in the past few years, let’s see if 2025 is the year everything finally comes to fruition.
