The Pittsburgh Steelers roster might be nearing full capacity, but their team is far from complete.
The starting quarterback is up in the air, and the WR corps is incomplete after the George Pickens trade.
Because of that, Pro Football Focus didn't exactly pass the Steelers offseason with flying colors...
The Steelers-Aaron Rodgers situation is still an unknown, which makes this offseason tough to grade. Pittsburgh subbed in D.K. Metcalf for George Pickens and paid a new contract and an extra round in value (traded a second for Metcalf and got a third for Pickens) to do so.
I like the additions of Darius Slay and Derrick Harmon and think rookie Kaleb Johnson and his 86.3 career PFF rushing grade can lead the team's backfield. I just don’t know what to make of the Steelers' offseason with so many remaining questions at quarterback.
- Trevor Sikkema, PFF
A C- isn't good enough for a degree at any accredited University and institution, so if we use that rubric, the Steelers have essentially failed the offseason in the opinion of Sikkema. I can't say he's wrong.
When it's May, and organized team activities begin in two weeks, and you still don't know who your starting quarterback is, forget the rest of the offseason; that alone is a bad omen.
I think Will Howard, in round six was an excellent pick. I think bringing back Mason Rudolph, who saved the Steelers' 2023 season, was a smart move. I do not think, under any circumstance, that either of those quarterbacks can lead the Steelers to the Super Bowl, their ultimate goal with players like Watt, Heyward and Fitzpatrick still on the team.
Add in the fact that if Pittsburgh was truly all in on winning with this generation of greats, they probably don't trade away one of the better WRs in the league, and a C- is more than valid for the Steelers offseason, or at least for right now.
Until Aaron Rodgers is on the team and they sign a free agent or make a trade to replace George Pickens, it's going to be hard to be anything other than bearish on the 2025 version of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
