Pro Football Focus believes a current Tennessee Vols defender would be a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft -- if he were draft-eligible.
PFF put together a 2025 NFL mock draft this week that includes all players in college football, regardless of eligibility, and they have Vols rising junior cornerback Jermod McCoy as the No. 29 overall selection (to the Washington Commanders).
Interestingly, PFF noted that McCoy could be the first cornerback selected in the 2026 NFL Draft.
From PFF : McCoy could be the first cornerback selected in next year’s draft. He ranked ninth among qualified FBS cornerbacks with an 89.6 PFF coverage grade in 2024. He also reeled in four interceptions and broke up six passes while allowing just two touchdowns all season. McCoy’s presence would allow Mike Sainristil to move back to his natural slot position while creating a fearsome trio that also includes Marshon Lattimore.

McCoy tore his ACL earlier this offseason and he's expected to miss much of the 2025 season as a result. Tennessee is hopeful that he can return to action at some point in 2025, but it's far too early for a timeline on his potential return.
The Texas native, who transferred to Tennessee after spending one season at Oregon State, was a major reason for the Vols' defensive success last season.
