The Los Angeles Rams find themselves in a tricky situation in the offseason with star wide receiver Puka Nacua heading to rehab. It's not so late that they can't resolve it before the season, but insiders are asserting that his situation will have "huge implications" for the team this season.
Appearing on ESPN's Get Up, NFL insider Adam Schefter said that the Rams are in a precarious situation with Nacua as they must now deal with both his off-the-field issues while balancing his presence as an asset for the offense.
“He’s trying to get the help that he believes he now needs, and obviously, there are huge implications for the football element of this that the Rams are aware of,” Schefter said. “But they said it’s most important right now for Puka to get the help that he needs as a person, and all the football stuff, the contract, that all can wait until after he’s out.”

The biggest and most obvious issue that Nacua's situation brings up is his contract status. He's heading into the final year of his contract and is only due $5.8 million this year. He would have done contract extension talks with the Rams that likely would have made him one of the highest paid receivers in NFL history, if not the highest.
But with Nacua in rehab and his future with the team uncertain, the Rams obviously can't talk to him about a new deal. And if no new deal materializes before the season, they'll be forced to tag or release him 11 months from now.
Like him or hate him, Nacua has been one of the NFL's most productive wide receivers for the past three seasons. 2025 was his best year yet as he led the league with 129 receptions while recording 1,715 yards and 10 touchdowns. His 107.2 yards per game also led the league.
Nacua's 95.3 yards per game average over 44 career games is already an NFL record.
Will the Rams find a suitable middle ground with Nacua?
