Punishment Announced For Lions Fan Who Sparred With Matt LaFleur

Before the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions squared off last Thursday, Matt LaFleur was at the center of a wild pregame altercation.

Just moments before kickoff, LaFleur had a heated exchange with Lions fan Fahad Yousif. Things got so intense that an assistant coach for the Packers had to break things up. After the Packers lost a heartbreaker to the Lions, LaFleur spoke to the media regarding this incident. Obviously, he wasn't pleased about it.

“I’ve never been a part of something like that,” LaFleur told reporters. “He was talking junk to our players, giving them the throat slash sign, I’m trying to de-escalate it and then he gets in my face. I thought it was pretty unsportsmanlike. I’ve never seen that. I’ve been on many fields and usually they police that much better. I thought it was an arrogant fan that wanted to get in part of the action, and I would like to see security or something step in there and get him out of there. Because he shouldn’t be doing that.”

LaFleur would be happy to know that Detroit did something about this.

According to reports, Yousif was a season ticket holder. That's no longer the case. The Lions emailed him this week to let him know that his remaining tickets have been rescinded.

"As a Lions Loyal Member (season ticket holder), you are responsible for ensuring that you, and the persons occupying any seats licensed to you, act and conduct themselves according to the Guest Code of Conduct policy, which you have been advised of as a Lions Loyal Member. The Lions, Ford Field and the NFL will not tolerate illegal or disruptive behavior, which is contrary to our policy," the Lions emailed Yousif. "At this time, your season tickets have been revoked and your eligibility to become a Lions Loyal Member has been suspended indefinitely."

The Lions will give Yousif a refund for the remaining tickets on his account. He has already issued an apology to LaFleur for his actions.

It's unclear if Yousif will ever be reinstated for season tickets. Getting into a heated argument with an NFL head coach is a serious matter that can't be overlooked.

The Lions will be home this Sunday against the Buffalo Bills in what many are calling a Super Bowl preview. Yousif has to be kicking himself that he won't be able to attend that game.
