QB Daniel Jones to ask Giants legend for playoff advice

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones will pick the brain of a club legend before making his NFL postseason debut Sunday at the Minnesota Vikings.

Jones confirmed to ESPN's Jordan Raanan he'll be reaching out to Eli Manning ahead of this coming weekend. Manning was New York's QB1 when the club selected Jones in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft but ultimately lost his job to the then-rookie early into that campaign. The two-time Super Bowl champion retired in January 2020, but he and Jones remain friendly even if their relationship was "a little awkward at times" throughout the 2019 season.

As noted by Michael Eisen of the Giants' website, Manning went 8-4 across his 12 career postseason starts and holds a handful of franchise playoff passing records. Back in January 2008, Manning guided Big Blue to three road playoff victories before the Giants stunned the 18-0 New England Patriots to win Super Bowl XLII.

Jones is one of the nine New York player captains with no playoff experience heading into Sunday's encounter at U.S. Bank Stadium. The 25-year-old is making up for it by asking the right people the right questions.

"I've spoken with some of the older guys, some of the coaches," Jones explained. "A lot of guys talk about the speed of the game and that increasing in the playoffs and just how critical each play is. And it's one or two plays here or there that's going to make the difference. In a regular season game, maybe it's a handful. But in the playoffs, these are good teams that you're competing against. It's one or two plays that's going to make the difference."

Jones added that the Giants are "not satisfied just to make the playoffs" even though many gave them zero chance of qualifying for the postseason tournament during the summer months. OddsChecker showed that multiple sportsbooks listed the Giants as three-point underdogs for Sunday's game as of early Wednesday evening.
