Quay Walker and the Green Bay Packers defense have been on a tear lately. The Packers have won four consecutive games and now control their own destiny. They will take on the Detroit Lions at home on Sunday night. As former Packers full back John Kuhn said on his show “Nine 2 Noon,” this could be the last time we see Aaron Rodgers as the quarterback of the Green Bay Packers.
Of course, fans are not thinking about that right now. There is so much at stake in this game. If the Packers win, they are in. However, there is something else that could be achieved on Sunday night regarding a Packers rookie record.
AJ Hawk, the Packers first round pick (number five overall) in 2006, set the Packers’ rookie record for tackles in a season with 121. Green Bay went 8-8 that year under head coach Mike McCarthy and defensive coordinator Bob Sanders.
Through 16 games (15 starts) this season, Quay Walker has 114 total tackles. He is just seven away from tying Hawk for the Packers’ record for tackles by a rookie. Walkers has registered seven or more total tackles in nine of his 16 games this season.
When the Packers last played the Lions, Walker had eight total tackles. The most he has had in a game is 13, which he accomplished in Week Seven at Washington.
