Going into draft season, many fantasy fans will wander over to the stat sheet and analyze what happened last year. They’ll look at who scored the most touchdowns, who scored the points, and who managed to stay healthy throughout the entirety of the season. While all of these statistics provide valuable insights, they lead many fantasy fans astray from the truth. Points per game (PPG) serves as a statistic that indicates how satisfied fantasy managers were on a week-to-week basis, regardless of time missed due to injury. Here are some players whose PPG may surprise fantasy fans heading into 2025.

Chris Godwin (TB) – 16.1

Ranked second only behind Jamar Chase, Chris Godwin was a monster to start the year before his season ended early due to a devastating dislocated ankle injury. The receiver saw nearly nine targets per game and was on pace for a double-digit touchdown season. Despite receiving a three-year, $66 million contract this offseason, his availability for this season remains in doubt.

Throughout his career, Godwin has dealt with almost every injury imaginable. It’s concerning that nine months post-surgery, the receiver is still not ready for on-field action. This leaves many wondering why the team chose to re-sign the receiver at age 29.

Although Godwin may be ready to go by week 1, the surrounding competition, paired with the current injury concerns, combine to create an unpredictable situation that appears worth avoiding.

Tee Higgins (CIN) – 15.5

Much like Godwin, the story of Tee Higgins’ career so far has been wildly injury-riddled. Having never played a full season outside of his rookie year, it would be fair to assume he’s bound to miss a few weeks in 2025. Despite dealing with injuries year after year, the talented receiver managed to get paid in the offseason. The recent four-year, $115 million contract serves as a clear statement that the team believes they need his services in order to succeed.

Even while working aside the most targeted receiver in the league, Ja’Marr Chase, Higgins serves as a valuable fantasy asset when healthy.

DeVonta Smith (PHI) – 12.7

Despite being the second receiving option behind A.J. Brown in Philadelphia, DeVonta Smith has served as a solid fantasy asset throughout the entirety of his career.

The passing game for the Eagles is condensed, making it easier to predict than most. Smith’s current ADP resides at WR24, making him a value when one considers he’s finished higher in all but his rookie year.

End Of The Fantasy Football Target Rant

Taking note of who was targeted the most last year is one of the best indicators for fantasy success in the future. Despite several of these names not finishing in the season as top-24 wide receivers for fantasy football, it would be wise for managers to take note, as positive regression may be in the cards for 2025.
