The Washington Commanders, by most metrics, had a successful season with Dan Quinn leading the new regime.
After being a four-win team in 2023, Quinn oversaw a unit that won 12 regular-season games, along with two playoff ones, before making the NFC Championship game, where they saw their season end at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles.
The turnaround from last season is as shocking as it is eye-opening, but not to Quinn and those inside the building.
“You've heard us say the word rebuild and recalibration,” Quinn said. “We knew there were some excellent people here, and rebuild would have meant tear down, and that's not how we thought of this at all. There were so many people that were here that like were absolutely all in. The recalibration meant like the needle bounces around a little bit but we found it, we found who we are and our identity, and the floor has risen, but like we're nowhere near where our ceiling is going to be, and that fires me up.”
So, the baseline for the Commanders under Quinn has now been found.
Now, will they win 12 games every year? Likely not. But they've found the blueprint for what type of team and organization they want to be moving forward.
The bare minimum for what Quinn expects from his team has now been declared, and attention turns to building upon that in the offseason with an eye toward 2025.
For most, Washington's success this season was a shock, but given how Quinn has built his staff and the culture he set in place from Day 1, what was accomplished this season wasn't the least bit surprising.
And he's expecting far more from his team going forward.
